Students Enjoy Fun and Games at Sunrise Elementary

Students at Sunrise Estates Elementary are building important literacy skills with help from a DonorsChoose grant secured by Student Learning Assistant Melanie Johns.

The grant enabled Johns to purchase a collection of literacy-based games designed to strengthen essential English Language Arts skills, including making inferences, vocabulary development, morphology, phonics, and using context clues. Upon arrival, the new resources were quickly put to use and have already made a positive impact at the school.

Students were highly motivated and didn’t want the games to end,” commented Mrs. Johns after debuting the games in her class.  “In fact, before workshop time was even over, they were already asking when the next game day would be!”
