Sunrise Elementary 5th Graders Complete Junior Ranger Program

Fifth-grade students at Sunrise Elementary School recently completed the Junior Ranger program for the Star-Spangled Banner National Historic Trail. Through this program, students explored the historical importance of the trail and gained a deeper understanding of the national anthem’s origins and meaning.

As part of their studies, students participated in a school-wide flag drawing contest, with four winners recognized for their creativity and patriotism. Their artwork reflected the theme of national pride central to the Junior Ranger experience.

To celebrate the students’ achievements, the school hosted a special assembly. The event opened with a student-led performance of The Star-Spangled Banner, honoring the nation’s flag.

During the assembly, students took the official Junior Ranger pledge, promising to protect and preserve America’s natural and historical resources. Each student received a Junior Ranger badge recognizing their commitment and efforts.

The program concluded with a performance of Homeward Bound by the 5th-grade chorus, leaving the audience with a strong sense of pride and respect for the students’ accomplishments.

“Congratulations to the newest Junior Rangers,” commented Principal Mr. DiNapoli.  “Special thanks to Ranger James Looper and teachers Ms. Frescura, Mrs. Hawk, and Mrs. Shogan for their support and guidance throughout the program.”
