Students Research Influential Women

Throughout the month of March, the 4th-grade students at Sunrise Estates Elementary have been diving deep into the lives of some of the most influential women in history — and they have a special reason to be excited about it. Thanks to a generous DonorsChoose grant, Mr. Pompilio’s classroom recently received a collection of books highlighting remarkable women from various fields, including science, sports, entertainment, and activism.

The books, filled with stories of trailblazers like Rosa Parks, Queen Elizabeth II, Serena Williams, and Malala Yousafzai, have served as a foundation for a powerful research and writing project that has taken over the classroom this month. Students were tasked with choosing one influential woman to study and breaking their research into four key categories: Early Life, Career, Accomplishments, and Achievements.

The students have spent weeks gathering information, organizing their notes, and carefully writing detailed informational essays about their chosen women. From learning how Taylor Swift broke records in the music industry to discovering how Megan Repinoe led the U.S. Women’s Soccer Team to World Cup victories, students have had the opportunity to see firsthand how women have shaped history across generations.
