During the month of March, the fifth-grade students in Mrs. Hawk’s Social Studies classes at Sunrise Estates Elementary School worked in groups to complete a STEAM project in honor of Women’s History Month.
The students chose an impactful woman from history, researched her life, and created a Google Slide presentation. The students then used art supplies and recycled materials to create a 2D likeness of their chosen individual. Finally, the students used robotics kits to program a single LED light to illuminate the project’s eyes and to program its arm to wave. Some of the women who were researched were Princess Diana, Helen Keller, Diane Fossey, Jane Goodall, Anne Frank, Amelia Earhart, Sacajawea, Marie Curie, Sally Ride, and Queen Elizabeth. The class enjoyed hearing each group’s presentation and seeing their finished art project.
