Origami Accompanies Lesson on Metric System

After learning how to convert measurements using the Metric System, Mrs. Hawk's 5th-grade math students at Sunrise Estates Elementary School made Origami frogs.

Once their frogs were complete, they had a jumping contest to see whose frog could travel the farthest distance by pressing their finger down on the folded legs.  Students measured how far their frogs ‘jumped’ in centimeters and then converted the distances into meters and kilometers.

The top frogs from each group went into a final round to see which frog jumped the furthest.
