Penn-Trafford students fared well at the Pennsylvania Invention Convention held in Hershey on February 8th. The event brought together students in grades Kindergarten through 12 from across the commonwealth. Participants had all pre-qualified for the state event by winning at the regional level.
In the elementary division (grades k-4), Harrison Park student Natalia Gunstrom (4th grade), inventor of The Travel Sink, won the People's Choice Award as well as 3rd place overall.
In the middle school division (grades 5-8), Sunrise student Elena Southern (5th grade), inventor of the Steer or Stop, won the People's Choice Award and Best Prototype.
Also in the middle school division, Level Green students Ellasyn Tautkus-Berry (5th), Caleb Larson (5th), Jake Bogler (5th), and Miles Johnson (4th), inventors of the FAF (Fantastic at Fertilizer) received the State Finalist Award.
“I am absolutely thrilled with the success of all the inventors this year,” commented Mr. Bechtell (gifted teacher). “They were very observant, and especially empathetic, as they worked through the inventive process. Many hours went into the development of their ideas, which evolved into a prototype, and now possibly a solution that could one day change the world.”
