Fourth-Graders Get Creative Learning U.S. Geography (6-14-21)

Mrs. Sara Watt’s 4th-grade students at Sunrise had been studying the regions of the United States since January.  Each student was assigned a state to research including its landforms, landmarks, culture, history, water features, plants, animals, and climate.

To complete the unit in May, the students coded ‘Ozobots’ (robots used to teach coding basics) to travel across a large floor map of the USA and land on the state they researched.

After the USA project, the students were asked to get creative and design their own state.  They came up with a state name, capital, climate, and landforms.

In all, the unit touched upon various curricula including geography, science, writing, and art.  Watt noted that “our fourth grade loved learning about the United States of America!”
